Cultural Activities
JSK in a collaborative project with India Foundation for the Arts addressed questions about the relevance of art and its effectiveness as a medium of social change. We have a history of using theatre as an integral part of our efforts to improve conditions of life in various villages spread over several districts of West Bengal. Outside resource people, interested in theatre in all its manifestations, were invited for workshops and training programs. The documentation that emerged from the project included a film on ‘spontaneous’ or ‘Shatosphurto’ theatre, which is a fairly detailed record of the group’s work.

Fight for Safe Drinking Water
JSK has done work on arsenic contamination of drinking water in the past. We led a struggle, fighting the problem of arsenic in drinking water, which led to the installation of several community-run arsenic removal plants and domestic filters in over 25 villages in North 24 Parganas and Nadia districts and the popularisation of domestic filters and community water sources.

Rural Development & Poverty Alleviation
JSK takes up programs such as housing, drinking water, sanitation, etc. to improve rural infrastructure.
