About

Jana Sanghati Kendra

Jana Sanghati Kendra (Centre for People’s Solidarity) has been working in West Bengal since 1984. Its primary aim is to support and encourage people’s movements and people’s organizations that are non-party. JSK believes that the lack of strong, self-reliant people’s organization is one of the chief reasons for the persistence of poverty.

JSK works in eleven districts of West Bengal – South and North 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Nadia, Murshidabad, Dinajpur and Birbhum. It has an outreach to over 900 villages in these districts.

Future Prospect

Jana Sanghati Kendra

JSK has been working in eleven districts of West Bengal – South and North 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Nadia, Murshidabad, Dinajpur and Birbhum. It has an outreach to over 900 villages in these districts.

JSK is now aiming towards making people self-sustainable, without depending on market forces. We are introducing concepts of alternative market economy and value chain to the people we work with. We have taken initiatives to connect weavers with local self-help groups in different districts, with the aim to remove middle-men; we are also introducing the concept of organic kitchen garden, to build capacity to set up and nurture own supply of vegetables and fruits.
